This year I had a pleasure to attend and photograph an amazing gala in Bondiana style. Think black tie attire, casino tables, beautiful decor, Sinatra live music, fancy food and lots of beautiful people!
As an event photographer for the night, I tried to capture the essence of the event, the ambiance and make sure I got every little details that made this event so special.
When photographing events, it’s very important to me to focus on the people attending, get lots of small group shots, but at the same time I combine it with a photojournalistic approach – getting candid shots to reflect the flow of the event.
Finally, I’m making sure I get close up detail shots – flowers, decor elements, appetizers and specialty cocktails, gift bags, table set ups and so on. each event is a result of team work, a lot of people worked hard to put everything together, so I want to make sure to capture everything that they spent time or money on.
And of course, wide shots of the ballroom to reflect the overall vibe of the event!
When I’m doing event photography, I’m not just a silent observer, I’m actively interacting with guests, making sure they posing well for the photos and having fun taking pictures. I understand that at the event I’m a part of the entertaining machine, and I’m also creating a good vibe.
Professional lighting is big part of a great event, but lighting is very important for getting great shots. truth is, most of the times event lighting is too low for photographers. That’s why I always bring my own lighting with me. For event photography I use flash lights, that will give me enough power to lit the room for a split second, but they will not interfere with the ambience of the event. Guests will still be enjoying the colorful or intimate uplighting.
My lighting equipment is very portable and compact, and I make sure it stays out of the way of the guests to avoid any accidents. But better be safe than sorry, that’s why I’m also covered by a professional liability insurance in case something ever happens.
